The Weekly Reset and What Carries Forward

Five sessions is the smallest block that says anything at all, and it is the natural unit for a reset because it matches the week the market actually trades. The weekend job is not analysis. It is deciding which of the last five days closes and which of it carries into the next block, and every weekly teardown orb trading routine richiebranson has logged shows the same failure when that line is left vague: losses carry forward and lessons do not. The trading week ends on Friday. What sits in the trade journal does not, and the difference has to be drawn deliberately.
What Closes

The profit and loss closes. So does the daily loss limit counter, the count of consecutive losses, and any state that exists only to constrain the current week. Carrying a drawdown figure forward as an emotional balance is the most common version of this error, and it produces a Monday session traded to recover something that no longer exists as a number anywhere except in memory.
Open positions are the exception, and they are an exception on purpose, since an intraday strategy should not have any.
What Carries

The rules carry, the instrument list carries, and the running sample carries. Expectancy measured over one week is noise. Measured over a quarter it starts to mean something, so the tally is cumulative by design and never restarted because a week went badly. Anything that resets the sample size on a bad week guarantees the record will always look better than the account.
The Archive Step
Screenshots, chart images and day sheets get filed into a folder named for the week and are not looked at again unless a question needs them. Filing is not review. Keeping the two separate is what stops the reset expanding into a three hour session that gets skipped the following weekend.
Anything marked during the week as needing a decision moves to one list. That list gets read at the start of the reset, not the end, because the end is where attention has run out.
One Change, Written Down
At most one rule change per reset, stated as a sentence, with the date and the reason. Two changes at once make the next month uninterpretable, since any difference in results cannot be attributed. This is the only point in the week where a rule is allowed to move, and having a single window is what stops rules moving on Tuesday afternoons after a stop loss gets hit.
The Same Hour Every Week
The reset happens whether the week was good, bad or dull. A reset that only happens after a bad week is a reaction, and reactions produce changes that would not survive being proposed on a quiet Sunday. Forty minutes, same time, and the next five sessions start from a defined state rather than from wherever Friday left things.
